Jones the goal
Bovingdon 2, Elliott Star 3, Herts County Premier - While Star took maximum points from this clash last weekend, they made it hard for themselves.
Elliotts lacked finish and the ability to keep their opponents locked out. Star's dilemma was evident in the opening five minutes when birthday boy Danny Wicks put the ball over the bar from ten yards.
Five minutes later Star did score, but Bovingdon equalised all too quickly. Star's strike came from Matt Jones.
He fired in a low shot from a loose ball after Kevin Cooper, having unlocked the offside trap, was blocked by a Bovingdon defender.
Bovingdon equalised through their number eight, who blasted a superb 25-yarder into the right hand corner of Star's net.
Elliotts then attempted to make amends for their earlier failures.
Stu Love fired a tasty effort toward goal but the keeper, at full stretch, tipped it over the woodwork.
Elliotts' determination finally paid off when they scored their second goal through Kevin Cooper. The Star stalwart headed in after receiving a ball from O'Connell.
At the start of the second-half, Star replaced keeper Terry Mason with Martin Picton.
And as this period got underway, both sides seemed all at sea. Though Star's Tommy Flahive was enjoying a good game at the back.
Following a botched Bovingdon penalty, Star moved en masse into their hosts' half of the pitch. This move enabled a through ball to be fired home by Jones.
Jones' strike sparked off a furious spell, Danny Wicks twice having to clear the ball off the goalline from successive corners.
While at the other end, Cooper had two chances to extend Star's lead, yet lacked the killer punch.
Not so for Bovingdon, who capitalised on a free kick into Elliotts' area with an on-target header.
Star's Cooper, Jones and Wicks all went looking for late goals but, once again, their finishing let them down.
