Corrie Kidd, 17, found charity work to be a real mouthful when she attended the opening of a tea shop in Summertown, Oxford.

Corrie, pictured above, was in a doughnut eating competition at the Straw Hat bakery in Banbury Road.

The event in 1988 was organised to raise money for the Rotary International Polio Plus campaign and for a Radio Oxford appeal to buy a narrowboat for disabled people to enjoy trips on the river and canal.

The City of Oxford Silver Band welcomed customers to Boaters tea shop and visitors were invited to tour the bakery and see bakery demonstrations as well as enjoy other entertainment.
