A boat salesman acted as a stunt double in a new Hollywood movie starring Superman actor Henry Cavill.

Louis Palmer-Smith, a technical salesperson for Williams Jet Tenders in Berinsfield, stood in for Oscar winner Sam Rockwell who plays a secret agent in spy thriller Argylle.

Mr Palmer-Smith was filmed expertly manoeuvring one of the company's RIBs in a high-speed chase up the Thames.

The opportunity arose as Williams makes tenders for Fairline Yachts.

They were working with film production company Marv who asked if they knew of a manufacturer who could supply a boat.

The high-performance craft needed an experienced person at the helm as it can reach speeds of 52mph.

Mr Palmer-Smith, 22, travelled to London with his team the night before filming.

He said: “The boat was berthed overnight at Chelsea Harbour and the next morning we went downstream to Wapping Pier.

“We had our hair and make-up done. They did try to make me look like Sam Rockwell, but they only got so far.

“I had my hair cut and dyed and I put on the same outfit which was jeans, brown boots, a brown leather jacket and I had a watch on.

“Then we headed to a small inlet and shot the scene.

"We needed to come out of the pier at the right speed so it looked good for the film."

Despite having no experience of acting, there was no time to feel self-conscious.

"I just embraced the moment," he said. "I didn’t feel like I was a star or anything like that. I took it in my stride. I thought to myself, I’m only going to get this opportunity once.

The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn who made Layer Cake, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, and the Kingsman films.

The story follows author Elly Conway whose best-selling espionage novels about a secret agent named Argylle start to mirror the actions of a real-life spy organisation.

Out in cinemas now it stars former Superman actor Cavill, Samuel L Jackson, Bryan Cranston, Dua Lipa and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly.

Sadly none of the film's stars were on set on the day.

Mr Palmer-Smith said: “The only other person I met that was in the movie was Bryce Dallas Howard’s stunt double - and the double of the cat that you see in the movie in a backpack which was a stuffed cat."

With Williams Jet Tenders' head of marketing Tom Dowdell he attended the premiere in Leicester Square last week.

He said: “It was definitely an experience. There was a yellow carpet because of the Argylle backpack in the film which was cool.

“And we had a go on these small electric buggies and when we hopped out we were metres away from Samuel L Jackson.

"Then we headed down the carpet and stopped to get photos. We brushed shoulders with a couple of influencers.

“We sat in our seats and Matthew Vaughn came out and gave a speech and thanked everyone that helped."

He added: “It was great for Williams. It was the perfect movie because it’s action packed and our boats are fast."

“And yes, I’d love to do more movies.”
