Films shot in Oxford lead the nominees recognising the worst cinema of the year.

It may have been a good year for the county at last night's Screen Actors' Guild awards in Hollywood, but it seems we also had a hand in some of the movies deemed to be last year's box office turkeys.

Transformers: The Last Knight and The Mummy - both filmed in the city centre - have been nominated for worst picture at the Golden Raspberry Awards, known as the Razzies.

The awards are held the night before The Oscars and aim to highlight the very worst cinema of the year.

Oxford Mail:

Supercars and superstars filled the streets of the city when the fifth instalment of the Transformers series came to Oxford in September 2016.

Sir Anthony Hopkins and Mark Wahlberg roamed around some of Oxford's most iconic spots, including Radcliffe Square.

Oxford Mail:

Their appearance attracted the crowds but it seems people have been less impressed with the final outcome.

It has been nominated for eight Razzies - including worst picture, worst director (Michael Bay) and Mark Wahlberg as worst actor.

The heavily criticised film - the fifth in the lucrative Transformers series - received a one-star rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

The film also included scenes shot at Blenheim Palace, which was draped in Nazi flags for a dramatic sequence.

Oxford Mail:

Oxford's historic streets also hit the big screen last year when The Mummy - starring Tom Cruise - was released to audiences across the globe.

A number of scenes were once again filmed around Radcliffe Camera and the eponymous villain even cornered Cruise's character in New College Lane - dubbed Oxford's 'spookiest' street.

Oxford Mail:

Cruise greeted fans in Radcliffe Square and was also spotted in Catte Street and outside the Bodleian Library during filming in 2016.

He has now been nominated for worst actor for his troubles in one of seven nominations the movie received - including Russell Crowe as worst supporting actor.

Emma Watson, who went to school in Oxford, also makes the list in the worst actress category for her role in The Circle.
