Swindon Town fans and police clashed in Botley Road ahead of the football match against Oxford United tonight.
The Us will host Swindon in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy later this evening, with the match kicking off at Kassam Stadium at 7.45pm.
Our reporter on the scene Megan Archer said there had been some minor scuffles outside One Bar with Botley Road temporarily closed, as Swindon Town fans gathered before the match.
Witnesses reported one man pinned to the ground and arrested by police.
It is believed glasses had been thrown as fans shouted abuse and swore at officers.
There were also reports of fans confronting each other at the Kassam Stadium before kick-off.
This is the first time both teams have played against each other since the 2012-13 season, and if Oxford come away on top, this will be the fifth match in a row they have won against Swindon.
Spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police Charlotte Redman said: “Police have been working closely with the football club to ensure a safe and enjoyable match. There will be a police presence in the city this evening, and at the stadium, from now and into the evening.”
City centre now calm, match underway, a number of arrests for alcohol related and public disorder. Police remain in city.
