FOUR men have been arrested and released on bail after Swindon fans clashed with police in Botley Road before last night's game between Oxford United and Swindon.

Thames Valley Police arrested a fifth man, 19, from Oldham, and cautioned him for being drunk and disorderly in Didcot - also linked with last night's match.

Three men, aged 41, 42 and 47, all from Swindon were arrested on suspicion of affray.

A 45-year-old from Calne in Wiltshire was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and released on bail until November 3.

Thames Valley Police made the arrests last night after Swindon Town fans clashed with police in Botley Road.

Oxford United went on to win the game 2-0 courtesy of a Kemar Roofe brace in front of more than 9,000 at the Kassam Stadium.

But the build up to the match was marred by the scenes in the city centre.

There had been some minor scuffles outside One Bar with Botley Road temporarily closed, as Swindon Town fans gathered before the match.

Witnesses reported one man pinned to the ground and arrested by police.

It is believed glasses had been thrown as fans shouted abuse and swore at officers.

There were also reports of fans confronting each other at the Kassam Stadium before kick-off. Read our report from last night here.

This is the first time both teams have played against each other since the 2012-13 season, Oxford's win was their fifth in a row against Swindon.

The aftermath of Oxford's victory passed without incident.
