Angus Henderson discusses his visit to the new restaurant opposite Jamie's Italian in Oxford

Q: Where did you go?
A: Cleaver in Oxford, the new restaurant opposite Jamie’s where Fire & Stone used to be.

Q: What did you think?
A: Very cool. All of the furnishings, like the lights, are recycled from hospitals, fire stations, power stations and those sort of places, which gave it a really nice theme. All of the rooms were on different levels as well which made it look really good and it had a great atmosphere.

Q: What did you have to eat?
A: I had half a rack of ribs with onion rings and skin on chips. To drink I had a vanilla milkshake and for dessert I had a vanilla cheesecake with a fruit coulis. I loved the ribs. They had a lovely barbeque sauce on them and the meat was really succulent. I would have preferred it a bit crisper but that was all right.

The onion rings were amazingly soft in the middle and crispy on the outside. The chips were fairly average. My milkshake wasn’t very thick though so it felt like drinking milk. My vanilla cheesecake didn’t have very much vanilla flavour either.

Q: Who did you go with and what did they have?
A: I went with my brother and he had exactly the same as me. He really enjoyed it and wanted to go back for his birthday.

Q: High points?
A: The service is really quick.

Q: Low points?
A: Not very nutritious

Q: Marks out of ten?
A: 7

Q: Would you take a girl on a date there?
A: Absolutely, because the food is fun and there’s lots to look at.
