Entries must arrive by midday on Saturday for judging at 3pm.

- Celebrate the stars and stripes on Independence Day in true American style this weekend at Chariots and Cherry Pie, Oxfordshire’s new American themed diner which is honouring its stateside inspiration this weekend by hosting a two day event.

Held at the newly-opened diner situated off the A420 near Buckland, the fun starts at 10am on Saturday and Sunday with entertainment for the whole family.

Families can battle it out on ‘Mustang Sally’ – Chariots and Cherry Pie’s very own Rodeo Bull, to see who can stay on the saddle the longest with a prize for the rodeo rider who stays aboard the longest.

A bouncy castle will also be open in the children’s play area in the landscaped garden, until 8pm, when the event draws to a close.

With waitresses dressed in poodle skirts and the sounds of rock and roll providing the soundtrack to the two day event, visitors will be transported into the fun and fearlessness era of 1950s America, when food ruled and cars were all the rage.

- The seventh annual National Restaurant Awards, organised by Restaurant Magazine to recognise the top 100 UK restaurants included Le Manoir and The Kingham Plough in its line-up.

n The UK’s fastest growing Chinese takeaway chain, Hotcha, has announced plans to open up three new stores in Oxford, as part of its national expansion programme.

Hotcha, which serves up freshly-made Chinese dishes for collection or delivery, was founded two years ago by entrepreneur James Liang, who had a vision to create the UK’s first national Chinese takeaway brand.

Hotcha has proved particularly popular with families, young professionals and students. Stores are branded with a modern street image and are focusing on opening in Cowley Road, Headington and Summertown.
