Estate Agent Fined For Claims
An estate agency which falsely claimed in advertisements that properties were new instructions has been fined £1,000.
Dawnquest, which trades as Conway & Co in Belmont Circle, Belmont, pleaded guilty to four offences under the Property Misdescriptions Act at Harrow Magistrates Court.
Investigations by Brent and Harrow Trading Standards Service were started after another local estate agent was concerned that Conway was taking an unfair commercial advantage by making false claims in advertisements.
Trading standards officers examined company files on various properties for sale. One property in Kenton was first advertised as a new instruction in November 1997 and again in March 1998.
Trading standards director John Taylor said after the case: "The public must have confidence in those who deal in the sale of properties and be sure that their agent is acting with the utmost professionalism and is complying with all the relevant legislation."
