PLANS to pedestrianise Queen Street are being delayed, thus giving opportunity to reconsider the proposals.
Queen Street has been used both by buses and without buses so it is possible to compare.
Either way I do not think there have been accidents.
When banned, extra traffic was created in the overcrowded St Aldate’s and the Rose Hill bus stop was placed in High Street where the pavement is narrow near the entrance to the {Covered] Market.
People waiting for buses hinder the passage of the many pedestrians passing through, resulting in many of them stepping into the road to get past which is likely sooner or later to cause an accident.
Buses using Queen Street do not block pedestrians and bus stops there are not a problem.
So far the council has not stated clearly the advantages of banning buses in Queen Street and it would be good to hear their reasons.
