I WAS appalled to read in the article ‘Cameron on...Unitary Status’ (Oxford Mail, June 9) that two identical studies have been commissioned by local authorities into reorganisation of local government each at a cost of £100,000.

What a waste of money which could well be spent on improving the substandard roads in rural areas and cutting back the foliage which is now obscuring road signs and traffic lights which is now becoming a potential danger. It would be interesting to know if the same consultant had been engaged to carry out both studies. What will happen if the studies recommend completely different actions? I was disappointed that Mr Cameron was too weak to criticise council bosses.

On the same page an article appears ‘Cameron on...the A34’.

It was encouraging to read that the Government is looking at means to relieve congestion on the notorious A34. However I am puzzled at the comment Chancellor George Osborne has asked for a study for a review of the transport link between Oxford and Cambridge with the possibility of an expressway between the cities.

Such a link would be at about 90 degrees to the north-south A34 and I am at a loss to understand how this would alleviate problems on the A34. I travel on the A34 two to three times a week but can’t remember when I last drove to Cambridge.

I use the Milton interchange to access the A34 and in my opinion the enormous cost of the new ‘hamburger roundabout’ has not been justified.

The change appears to have done nothing to alleviate the traffic to and from Milton Park, if anything it is now worse at peak times and if at all possible I try to avoid the area at such time of the day.
