I HAVE just been listening to councillor Nimmo Smith talking about a possible new bypass south of Bicester to access Aylesbury. So the county has some money put by if they can contemplate such a scheme.

Mr Smith was saying that the much-needed relief road, and I agree that it’s needed, will cost hundreds of millions of pounds and that a lot of this money would come from central government.

It beggars belief that the Government can give local authorities money like that but force local authorities to make cuts after cuts.

David Cameron is a hypocrite writing to the leader of the county Ian Hudspeth condemning him for making such cuts when his Government is the root cause.

Letters

There would be plenty of taxpayers’ money to fund all in this country if the money stayed in this country.

Getting the Government to lift the two per cent cap on the council tax may be the answer in the eyes of local politicians.

That’s all very well. Many people are struggling to make ends meet as it is.

Mr Smith says that the ordinary person will have a say as to where this proposed new road will be routed. Who is he trying to kid?

When has the local authority allowed the public to say where such a road will go.

There will be the compulsory purchase of properties. The whole idea will be rubber stamped and public opinion will be just a formality.
