With reference to comments about potential conflict between cyclists and pedestrians in a future pedestrianised Broad Street, one possible solution would be to use the system currently in place in Cornmarket, where cycling is prohibited between 10am and 6pm, the busiest hours of the day, but permitted at other times.
As a cyclist and a pedestrian, this compromise solution seems to work fairly well in Cornmarket, with little apparent friction between the two groups.
Also, Broad Street is considerably wider than Cornmarket, so there should be plenty of room for cyclists and pedestrians to comfortably co-exist.
