WE had a boiler replaced by a small plumbing firm from Banbury. I asked for a receipt for the two cheques I issued, the warranties for the boiler and work done as well as the building regulations certificate.
These were requested from the firm and they agreed to send them. I followed this up with a text to avoid any misunderstandings, and the firm texted back agreeing to issue them.
Nothing materialised.
My main point is that I tried CAB for advice, who put me onto Consumer Advice 03454040506.
On two occasions I was told the following which I found very strange, and would not have thought correct.
I have been told by Consumer Advice, that because a receipt request was not put in writing to the firm, in the written contract (what contract, it was just a quote for small works) they are not obliged to issue one. So if you have work done and you expect a receipt for these works – make sure you ask in writing before any work starts for a receipt, I’m sure very few people know this legal glitch.
