Taxpayers will face a £300m-£400m penalty if controversial privatisation contracts for the Probation Service are cancelled if Labour wins next May’s general election.

This is because the Tories have put in an “unprecedented” clause that guarantees bidders their expected profits over the 10-year life of the contract, even if Labour cancels the contracts.

One can only think that whatever Tory thought this up is after a plum job with one of the companies if Labour dumps him out of office next May.
