With regard to the energy crisis, I am deeply concerned that we have switched off Didcot power station and are about to blow up the cooling towers. They held the test explosions only last week.

This is absolute madness as we don’t have the nuclear power stations to replace it for another 10 years or more, as everyone knows.

We have a chronic shortage of electricity. Renewable energies like solar and wind power are not sufficient to prop up the National Grid.

Only last week the boss of Centrica said we may have to ration electricity. Yes. Power cuts.

Also, Portsmouth Harbour has been warning of power cuts due to the Royal Navy using large amounts of energy to supply two new aircraft carriers.

In Germany, they are refurbishing their existing coal fired power stations just in case they run out of electricity at peak times, or Russia decides to cut off gas supplies to their power stations. They are going against the EU directives to close down coal-fired power stations, so we should do the same.

Please let’s save Didcot power station and get it ready to use next autumn/winter.

We were only saved from power cuts this winter because it was so mild and we had all that rain.
