An Oxfordshire school is appealing for help to enable students to complete a rather unusual history project. For ten months, pupils at Sibford Junior School have been building a Celtic roundhouse — but they have run out of reeds to finish the thatched roof.

Ali Bromhall, school community development officer, said: “We had hoped to finish the roundhouse before the end of the summer term, but, unfortunately, we’ve come to a halt. If anyone has any thatching materials they could let us have, it would be great.

“We don’t need a lot — it’s just the tip of the roof that’s left exposed, but it would be wonderful to be able to complete the project.”
