YOUNGSTERS have been testing out new play equipment after Princess Diana Park was given a £150,000 makeover.

Banbury mayor Tina Wren officially opened the revamped part, which has two play areas and a skateboard area.

The park is the second in the town to be given a major refurbishment funded by grants from Banbury town and Cherwell district councils, and Oxfordshire County Council Playbuilder Scheme.

Previously the area, off Edmunds Road, Banbury, had a concrete hard standing area and one mixed age and ability park with dated equipment.

But after a seven-week refurbishment there is a new concrete ramp for skateboards, BMX bikes and skaters.

And two parks, one to cater for toddlers, near Orchard Fields School, and a second for eight to 13-year-olds which is filled with wooden climbing structures, slides built into the embankment and a zip wire.

Ann Sewell, events and projects officer, said: “To see this project reach its completion is superb.

“These amenities have been a long time coming and everyone is delighted this popular park now has first class play facilities.

“We hope the children and youths benefit and learn through play for years to come.”
