A BANBURY guide celebrated the organisation’s centenary with the trip of a lifetime.

Emily Idziaczek, 15, was one of 16 Guides from across the country to take part in a five-day trip to Lapland.

As part of her adventure she got to try cross-country skiing, ice fishing, reindeer driving and go on a two-day husky safari which also involved an overnight stay in a ‘wilderness cabin’.

Emily, of Banbury, said: “Spending five days in Lapland was just incredible and an experience which none of us who travelled there will ever forget.

“Some of the activities we got to do were just out of this world and to think we did it in celebration of Girlguiding UK’s Centenary was just fantastic.

“One of the best bits was spending time on the husky safari.

“It was an amazing adrenalin rush when I stepped on to the sledge and knew I was going to be driving six huskies.

“I amazed myself by doing an ice dip — it was a once in a lifetime opportunity so I went for it.”

As part of the 100th anniversary of Girlguiding, youngsters from across the UK will be taking part in a host of adventurous activities.
