AS local councillors and parliamentary candidates gear up for the last few days of electioneering — so is a group of local scouts.

Adderbury Scout Group held its own election on Tuesday — the culmination of a two-month politics project.

The youngsters studied each of the main political parties’ manifestos to decide which they most agreed with.

Candidates were elected, and a political manager and public relations person employed for each.

Four scouts, Tom Bishop, 14, Lib Dem; Liam Savings, 15, Cons; Josh Gibbins, 11, Green and Isaac Gaston, ten, Lab, stood in the mock election.

They each made a speech at the scout group’s social evening on Tuesday, and afterwards fellow scouts and parents voted in a secret ballot.

Scout leader Andy Green said: “Having our election campaign running at the same time as the general election has given scouts a real insight into our political system, and the background to what is going on around them at the moment.”

“Some of the Scouts have some quite strong views and its great to give them an opportunity to be heard.

“All four of our candidates have been watching the TV debates to see how their famous national counterparts perform.

“It will be interesting to see if our result echoes the real thing on May 6.”
