The new Spiceball Leisure Centre in Banbury was opened to the public yesterday.
Cherwell District Council portfolio holder for environment, recreation and health, George Reynolds, welcomed the first users.
He said: "Spiceball is open - this marks the end of the council's sport centre modernisation programme and the start of a new era for leisure provision in the district.
"It was a proud moment when the doors opened to the first users this morning."
Council Chairman Diana Edwards and Cherwell Leisure Ltd project development manager Patrick Rendall formally opened Spiceball.
The centre includes a six-lane 25-metre swimming pool, a training pool with a depth-changing floor, an eight-court sports hall with viewing area, two squash courts, a multi-purpose studio, an exercise/dance studio, a 150-station health-and-fitness gym, and a health suite.
