North Oxford finished their Aegon Team Tennis League season in style by whitewashing Caversham.

The 12-0 victory saw Balasz Vuksitz (pictured) and his team leapfrog their visitors into the Southern Reg-ional Division’s top three.

They just missed out on promotion, finishing two points behind second-placed Maidenhead.

Both teams went into the tie with two wins and two defeats from their four games, but the home side dominated and lost just two sets across the six matches.

David Malcolm had the pick of the singles wins, bouncing back from losing the first set against Paul Lomas to win 7-5 in the decider.

The university player teamed up with Vuksitz in the final doubles match to compete the clean sweep as Lomas and Terry Mayers were beaten in straight sets.

l BANBURY Town went top of Ladies’ Division 2 in the OLTA Wilson League with a 4-0 win over Woodstock B, moving ahead of rivals Banbury West End.

Virgin Active beat Goring 4-0 to take the lead in Men’s Division 3, ahead of Oxford City, who beat Woodstock B by the same margin.

l EDUARDO Pereira and Taysie Gujral were beaten finalists at the third annual Wimbledon Week tournament.

The school tennis competition, organised by Virgin Active, attracted players from as far afield as Devon.

Oxfordshire success was limited in the opening events, with North Oxford’s Pereira and Gujral (Woodstock) the pick of the home players after reaching the finals of the 16&U boys and 14&U girls events.
