OXFORDSHIRE teams found it tough in the first regional knock-out rounds of the AEGON schools tournaments.
Oxford High’s year 10 girls lost 8-4 to lower-rated St Mary’s Calne, despite top player Asha Badiani winning both her singles matches and a doubles with Elisha Gujral.
Elias Djaoui won the only rubber as St Birinus, Didcot’s year 8 boys lost to Highdown School, from Berkshire, 10-2.
UNDER 16 players shone as the Thames Valley Winter League got into full swing.
Ben Jerhams, 14 and Sam Shadbolt, won both their matches to help Bicester pip Woodstock B 5-3 in Men’s Division 1.
Taysie Gujral, also 14, and Nicola Casey secured Woodstock’s 5-3 win against Brackley in Ladies’ Division 1.
