RUGBY UNION: Jewell calls on Welsh to keep cool heads

8:00am Tuesday 20th May 2014

By Ed Mezzetti

Seb Jewell said London Welsh cannot not let their dramatic victory over Leeds Carnegie go to their heads as they chase a Premiership place.

Jewell and his Exiles teammates were jubilant after securing a last-gasp 60-58 aggregate win in the Greene King IPA Championship play-off semi-final at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium on Sunday.

But it is business as usual today as they return to training to prepare for the two-legged final against Bristol, with the first leg at the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday, May 28, with the return in Bristol a week later.

“We don’t want to get too carried away with ourselves, but we dug deep,” said centre Jewell.

“When you dig deep and pull off that sort of performance, you are going to celebrate.

“It might not seem like we behaved nicely to Leeds – and if that’s the case we apologise – but It did mean a lot.

“We turned around for the second leg seven points down and everyone has written us off. At the beginning of the season we didn’t have a chance, but we proved that we are good.”
