GOSFORD All Blacks edged out Supermarine 13-10 at Stratfield Brake to reach the Southern Counties Senior Vase final.

But victory came at a price, with replacement flanker Rich Cook suffering an horrific break of his tibia and fibula in the second half.

Gosford will now host Chesham in the next round on Saturday, February 1.

Fly half Harry Sutton finished off a slick move for their opening try, with scrum half Tim Ellis adding a penalty.

Supermarine replied with a penalty from Stuart Dawson before Gosford flanker Eugene Griffin was sin-binned.

Wing Stuart Doughty’s try, converted by Dawson, put the visitors 10-8 up at half-time.

Centre Jack Briggs latched on to Sutton’s long pass to burst through for the winning try.

Play was held up for 25 minutes while the stricken Cook was carried off and he remains in Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital.

Abingdon scored five tries as they eased past visitors Risborough 31-7 to reach the Southern Counties Junior Vase final.

They will visit Marlborough on February 1 after their five-try win.

Seb Bach led the way with a brace, while fellow wing Benny Samuel, No 8 Gareth Smith and flanker Lloyd Willcocks also went over.

Fly half Mark Roberts converted two tries and centre Steffan Dahle one.

Alchester were knocked out of the Southern Counties Intermediate Cup at the semi-final final stage after a 33-7 defeat at Trowbridge.

Tom Iles scored Alchester’s sole try, with Tom Miles converting.
