JACK Stevens has signed a new contract at Oxford United which will keep the goalkeeper at the club until summer 2019.
The 20-year-old has yet to make a competitive appearance for the club, but is seen as one for the future and was delighted to sign the new 18-month deal, which includes the option of an additional year.
He told United’s website: “I’m more than happy to sign a new deal.
“The club have been fantastic and I want to push on from here and try to earn more chances in the first team squad if I can.”
Stevens, from Curridge, near Newbury, has spent the majority of this season accumulating experience in non-league football.
He was a key part of Oxford City’s terrific run to the Emirates FA Cup second round, beating Colchester United along the way.
It has been followed by a spell at Vanarama Conference North side Tamworth, where he will stay until the end of the campaign.
Stevens said: “I think the loan spells at City and Tamworth have been a massive help for me and I’m still young and I feel I am learning all the time.
“Wayne Brown (United’s goalkeeping coach) pushes all of the keepers here to keep improving and to keep working at our game and I want to reward the confidence that the club has shown in me by continuing to work as hard as I can to make the most of this opportunity.”
