Oxford United Ladies 2 Newcastle United Ladies 1

EARLY goals from Katie Stanley and Natasha Caswell saw Oxford United into the FA Women's Cup fifh round for the first time.

The ladies' debut at the Kassam Stadium got off to a flying start, when Caswell found Stanley, who superbly opened the scoring with a lob on eight minutes.

Caswell added a second goal with a low shot from the edge of the box inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Newcastle, who play their league football a division higher, were second best for the opening 45 minutes, but came alive after the interval.

Jess Havelock pulled a goal back six minutes after the restart to get them back in the game.

But the U's, marshalled by skipper Sahara Osborne-Ricketts, stood firm to keep out the visitors.

Dan Anderson, Lauren Allison and Holly Pickett all had chances to make it 3-1 late on, but it was not costly.

They can now look forward to the fifth round draw, when the Women's Super League sides enter the competition.

Can we promote the ladies to the Saturday first team please, even take them to Gillingham this Tuesday as they seem to know how to play football and score a goal, on the same quagmire the men do.

Chris Wilder claims it's difficult to play football on that pitch. The ladies showed just how easy it is. Caswell & Osborne-Ricketts were outstanding with the former pulling the strings in midfield. She kept it simple when it was needed, but if she saw an opportunity to play a incisive through ball or cross-field pass, she made it count. Think she only gave the ball away 3 times the entire game.

The ladies kept it on the ground and put the men to shame. Bring on the next round. A joy to watch.

Congratulations ladies for a richly deserved victory. Great performance in the first half with two superb goals. Newcastle were made to look second best until the second half when they briefly looked threatening. OULFC hit the bar twice in the second half and could've added to their lead. As has already been mention Caswell in midfield was absolutely fantastic and Osbourne-Ricketts at the back was outstanding. Good luck to the ladies in the next round!!!

Ashamed to say I let the cold deter me from being there for this fantastic victory. I will certainly be there for the Everton game if I possibly can be.
Whatever happens this is a magnificent achievement for the Ladies: let's have them all on the pitch at HT at the Rotherham game so that the get the plaudits they deserve!

Well done ladies !!!! You showed how it is possible to play passing football on the pitch even with its divots....We were somewhat surprised however having purchased two boxes for the game for twenty people it was not possible to buy a cup of tea/coffee,soft drink or food considering it was a 1.00pm kick off...Surely it was possible to advise us prior to the day so we could have made alternative arrangements..
