Jake Wright is expecting a battle
FACING one of the most experienced striking partnerships in League Two holds no fears for Oxford United skipper Jake Wright tomorrow.
Southend United could line up with a front two of Freddy Eastwood and Neil Harris, who have notched almost 250 goals between them during excellent careers.
The U’s have kept just one clean sheet in their last five games, but Wright is relishing the chance to try and keep the Shrimpers’ hit men out of the game.
He said: “They’re two good strikers with really good experience, but that’s the sort of guys I want to play against.
“We all want to play as high a level as possible, so when you do that the strikers get better.
“They’ve played at a great level and will have a few things that will try to cause me a few problems so I’ll have to make sure I’m on my toes.
“Obviously I’ll have Dubes (Michael Duberry) next to me, so that’ll help me a lot.”
Conceding early goals has become an Achilles heel for United in recent games, which Wright is determined to correct in the must-win clash.
He said: “We’re not doing anything differently but we’ve been starting slowly and getting punished for little mistakes.
“We have to make sure instead we start strongly to get on top of them.”
