Oxford United are ready for whatever Barrow – or the conditions – throw at them in tonight’s FA Cup second-round replay, says manager Chris Wilder.

The rewards are “massive”, admits the U’s boss, but the players will not let that affect them, and will treat it as just another game.

With the winners set to play Premier League Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on January 2, tonight’s victors are guaranteed a six-figure pay-day, which could climb towards the £150,000 mark, depending on the size of the gate in the third round.

Barrow striker Jason Walker, who like United’s James Constable missed the tie at the Kassam Stadium through injury, stoked up the pre-match psychological warfare by suggesting Oxford would struggle in the replay.

“A wet and windy night at Holker Street is unpleasant for visitors and we are expecting 3,000 who will be right behind us, so we are certainly in with a shout against Oxford,” said Walker, who again misses out with an injury.

But Wilder laughed that off, saying: “Barrow are a decent side, who possibly should be doing better than they are. They’ve got some good players, and have gone out and brought in some even better players.

“But we’re really looking forward to it and won’t be intimidated by a crowd of 3,000. I’ve got a lot of players who have played in a lot of big games, players that roll their sleeves up and our away record this year has been fantastic.

“We’re not worried about it being cold, wet, windy and hostile. All the players and staff have been around and handled and witnessed that kind of thing before.

“The outcome will be decided by who plays better on the night, who takes their chances, and who shows the biggest desire to go through.”

United travelled up early yesterday and trained at Preston.

Wilder is without Franny Green and Onome Sodje, who are cup-tied, but Ross Perry (thigh) and Damian Batt (hamstring) came in on Sunday for a check-up and treatment, and have looked OK, while Matt Green is fit again.

Luke Foster, who scored United’s goal in the 1-1 draw at Holker Street in the league, may return to central defence.
