Two astonishing finishes from Chris Aubrey secured Oxfordshire victory over Hampshire in a thrilling BDO Inter-County Championship Premier Division clash at the weekend.

Needing one win from their last two Men’s A matches to clinch victory at Fareham, Aubrey came up trumps.

His opponent, PDC world championship qualifier Aaron Monk took a 2-1 lead in the best -of-seven leg match, but then missed a double to allow Aubrey to level at 2-2.

The Oxfordshire man then shot out on 156 to win the fifth leg and followed it with an amazing 161 finish to clinch a 4-2 success.

Although Oxon lost the last game, they won the overall match 19-17 and claimed the three bonus points to end a superb year in third place.

The visitors had been given an excellent start on the first day as their Ladies B team triumphed 4-2.

Their wins came from Sandra Cox, who had 143 out-shot, Kim Ledbury, Cath Birch and lady-of-the-match Babs Manning .

Oxon Men’s B lost the first three games before Aaron Stevens, Eamon Lilly, and Lee Russell levelled the scores.

After that, only man-of-the- match Antony Barrett and Phil Addison won for Oxon in a 7-5 defeat.

So the the counties were tied 9-9 at the end of the Oxon Ladies A went 2-0 down before Karen Williams, who had a 150 out-shot, and Fiona Car-michael levelled the scores.

There followed a fantastic performance from world No 1 – and top seed for this year’s World Championships – Deta Hedman with an amazing average of 30.12.

The last game was lost so the teams were level 12-12 going into the men’s A match.

Needing seven points for their first win over Hampshire, Oxon led 3-1, thanks to Nick Cobb, Pete Hall and Kevin Lowe.

Further wins from Ade Larner (30.36,) Stuart White (30.51) and man-ofthe-match Kirk Shepherd (30.83) set the stage for Aubrey’s dramatic success.

l oxfordshire’S British Inter-County Youth match at home to Essex this Sunday has been postponed.

A new date has yet to be arranged.
