OXFORD City & County claimed the Oxfordshire Indoor triples crown after getting off to a fast start against Banbury Cross in the final at Chipping Norton.
The City & Country trio of Sam Watts, Ray Gaskins and Mark Charlett raced into a 9-0 lead after three ends against Banbury’s Lee Wilkinson, Paul McLeod and AJ Docherty, who was looking for his third title, having won the singles and the pairs.
Cross rallied but never seriously threatened Oxford’s lead, despite losing only 18-16. It would have needed a miracle last wood from Docherty to force the extra end.
In the Over 60s pairs final, Chippy’s John Cox and John Benfield defeated Tom McKenna and Nigel Galletly (Banbury Cross) 24-15..
After 15 ends, Cox and Benfield led just 14-13, but they pulled away on the last six ends.
The Oxon IBA annual meeting is at Oxford & District next Wednesday.
