NICK Harris is not often lost for words, but the legendary commentator was stunned to receive the special recognition award at the Oxfordshire Sports Awards.
His unmistakable Oxfordshire accent is not just well known to BBC Oxford listeners, but across the globe.
Harris has one of the most recognisable voices in world motorsport, he broke the news of Ayrton Senna’s death in 1994 and is still at the heart of MotoGP.
He is also well known for being the man behind the mic at Oxford United games for 40 years, during which time he has described two victories at Wembley.
The thought of joining the likes of Sir Roger Bannister and Rupert Evans in receiving the award, proved quite emotional.
“I’m not often speechless, but I am right now,” said Harris when collecting the surprise award.
“I’m an Oxfordshire boy through and through and I’m really proud of this county.
“Everywhere across the world I go I’m telling people about Oxfordshire sport and Oxford United.
“I’m humbled by this, I really am. I can’t believe it.”
