Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths, led by individual winner Simon Willsmore, triumphed in the first round of the Angling Trust Oxfordshire Winter League on the Thames at Culham and Abingdon.
With the the river still lacking any flow and clear following the first frost of autumn, this match was always going to be hard for the seven teams of eight, but there were still plenty of fish caught.
Willsmore, who drew the top peg just below the sailing club, had a good net of roach, perch and skimmers on 13m pole and caster over groundbait for a winning weight of 14lb 14oz
There was a tie for second between Willsmore’s teammate Matt Herbert, who had roach and perch over caster and groundbait from a peg in the middle of Abingdon for 13.13.0.
