Oxford's Jason Plato rose to second in the standings, but saw leader Colin Turkington extend his advantage at the top with a double victory at Rockingham.

Plato went into round eight at the Northamptonshire circuit in third place, 39 points adrift of Turkington.

And although the MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save racer has now moved ahead of Gordon Shedden in second, he is 55 points behind the championship trailblazer.

Plato took third in Sunday’s opening race as Turkington got the jump on pole-sitter Sam Tordoff off the line before pulling clear to win by a comfortable margin.

eBay Motors driver Turkington doubled up with a dominant lights-to-flag victory in the second race.

MG duo Plato and Tordoff again filled the remaining podium positions, but this time it was the double champion who led home his younger stablemate.

The Oxford star was off the pace in the day’s final race as Rob Austin took victory.

Plato said: “It’s been a good weekend for the team.

“We are the leading manufacturers, we’ve got the team award and we’re the best of the rest.

“Credit to the team, they have been brilliant this weekend and the results show that; it’s been a big effort.”
