OXFORD City Stars believe they have pulled off a transfer coup by signing Joonas Liimatainen for next season.
The Finnish defender has played for Dundee Stars and Cardiff Devils in the Elite League.
But the 24-year-old, who joins from Koillis-Pirkan Kiekko, is studying (at university) in Oxford, paving the way for Stars to make an offer.
Head coach Simon Anderson said: “I’m delighted to get a player of Joonas’ calibre.
“If you look at his resumé it’s obvious he should be playing at a higher level, but as Joonas will be studying in Oxford for the next two years, he felt this would be a good fit for him to approach the Stars.”
He added: “This is another big signing for us and our recruitment, goes from strength-to-strength.”
Liimatainen said: “I feel extremely fortunate that the Oxford City Stars wanted to sign me for the upcoming season and we could get everything sorted out.”
