Dan Bleach scored a breakaway goal in the dying seconds as Oxford upset South League Regional 1 leaders Ashford with a stunning 4-3 victory.

Ashford took the lead through Piers Du Boulay midway in the first half after a mix-up in the Oxford defence, but a Niall Devaney drag flick brought the scores level just before half time.

Oxford took the lead with a fine strike from French student Thibault Le Guezec.

But this was soon cancelled out by a converted Ashford penalty stroke from Shujah Ur Rehman, awarded for a foot on the line by Oxford defender Keith Sims.

 

Oxford looked to have sealed victory with five minutes to go when Bleach convert an-inch perfect pass from Jonny Campbell.

However, Devaney got caught in possession and Rehman made it 3-3 in the final minute Ashford went in search of a winner, but lost the ball in the Oxford D and Bleach ran half the length of the pitch to slot it past the helpless Ashford keeper with the last hit of the game.

Meanwhile, Oxford Hawks secured an exciting 3-2 victory at home to Old Cranleighans in Premier Division 1.

Hawks’ goals came from Jack Biggs, Kit Cutter and Matt Wood.

Witney recorded their first away victory of the season when they beat Thame 5-2 in Middlesex Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1.

Fielding a number of new players, Witney won with goals from Rory Heaslip (2) – taking his tally to 21 this season – Mike Goodwin (2) and Scott Beach.
