Former Oxford Hawks player Sandra Frankland helped to end their superb run in the National Cup at Surbiton on Sunday.

Frankland scored one of the goals as Surbiton won a tight quarter-final 2-0.

Hie Sawyer almost gave Hawks the lead in the first minute, while heroic defending, especially Ria Male in goal, and Sophie Carter, held Surbiton in the first half.

On the stroke of half-time, Hawks lost Lucy Stewart with a nasty arm injury.

They kept battling, but their talented hosts eventually took the lead through Frankland and added a second just before the end.

The previous day, Hawks gave a below-par display as they crashed 6-2 at Gloucester in the Investec Western Conference.

Hawks took a ninth-minute lead through Lucy Stewart following a short corner, but by half-time they were trailing 4-2, Lucy Millington scoring their second goal.

The second half continued in similar fashion, with Hawks not quite firing on all cylinders and unable to take advantage of some of their good work around the area.

They were punished twice in the last eight minutes by Gloucester, who sealed the win with an open-play strike and another penalty-corner strike.

Witney lost top spot in South Clubs League Division 3A, when they went down 3-1 at home to Banbury, who are the new leaders.

Indeed Witney slipped to third spot behind PHC Chiswick following this disappointing result.

All seemed swell for the hosts at half-time as they led 1-0 with a close-range goal from Amy Williams.

But Banbury dominated a stop-start second half, equalising through Pippa Jones from a short corner, before further goals from Tasha Nunneley and Rebecca Demczak took them top of the table.

Bicester went down 2-1 at Aylesbury in the Trysports League Premier Division.

Aylesbury piled on the pressure from the first whistle, but did not take the lead until shortly before halftime.

In the second half, Bicester could not stop Aylesbury adding a second.

Bicester came back with well-constructed goal, Lorraine Brickell and Lydia Harris setting up Alison Haik, who smashed it into the right corner of the net.
