Abingdon's Eddie Pepperell believes the thrill of qualifying for his first Open Championship will help him through a fourth successive tournament this weekend.

The 24-year-old tees off at the Nordea Masters in Sweden today off the back of his highest-placed finish on the European Tour at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

Despite missing out on a first tour win after losing a three-way play-off, finishing tied for second guaranteed the Frilford Heath ace a place at the 144th Open Championship at St Andrews on July 16.

Pepperell, now ranked 95 in the world, attempted to play four tournaments in a row earlier this year, but withdrew from the second round of the Maybank Malaysian Open through illness.

Since then he has continued to work on his stamina and is confident of making it through this weekend with no ill-effects.

“I don’t feel too bad,” said Pepperell, who looks to build upon last year’s sixth-placed finish at the Malmo course.

“Last week will be good for me and it will give me some adrenaline.

“I played there last year and it is not a particularly stressful course.”

Pepperell will play alongside South African Hennie Otto and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin during the first two days.
