CLANFIELD 85’s under 18s have capped a memorable season by completing a hat-trick of wins in the Oxfordshire FA Youth Cup competitions.
The talented team, who created club history by reaching the second round of the FA Youth Cup, beat Thame United 3-2 in the final at Kidlington to retain the Joe Roughton Under 18 Cup.
Their success in last year’s competition, follows their victory in the Oxfordshire Under 16 Cup in 2016.
The Robins got off to the best possible start, when Finlay Heritage scored with a free-kick, which was adjudged to have crossed the line.
Frankie Cato doubled their advantage in the 20th minute, converting a penalty awarded for handball, and Zak Oliver made it 3-0 at half-time with a solo effort.
The match seemed over, but Thame rocked their opponents by scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to make it 3-2.
With 15 minutes left, Thame had loud claims for a penalty turned down and a relieved Clanfield hung on to lift a county cup aloft for the third time in three seasons.
