LES Taylor felt Oxford United were deserving winners as they edged to a 3-2 triumph at Millwall Lionesses in FA Women’s Super League 2.

Despite taking an early lead through Destiney Toussaint, the U’s had to come from behind to claim the win courtesy of a 79th-minute header from Lauren Allison.

But Taylor felt it was a just reward for his side’s efforts.

“I thought we deservedly ran out 3-2 winners,” the U’s manager said.

“We’ve hit the bar, we’ve hit the post, the goalkeeper’s made a couple of great saves, but somehow we end up going 2-1 down against the run of play.

“But again we’ve shown great resolve, great character and kept going until the end.”

Toussaint put the U’s in front early on, tapping in from close range following an excellent run from Allison with 15 minutes played.

Oxford then squandered several chances to double their advantage and paid the price shortly before the break when Lillie Maple scored a penalty.

Millwall took the lead early in the second half when Rinsola Babajide cut inside and curled an effort into the far corner of the net.

But the U’s fought back, equalising just after the hour mark when Kat Nutman raced onto a delightful through ball before calmly slotting home.

And 11 minutes from time, Allison headed home Sahara Osborne-Ricketts’ free-kick and secure the points.
