THE race for the Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division crown heated up following a dramatic weekend.

Oxford University Press took over at the top with a 3-0 victory at Broughton & North Newington, while previous leaders Oakley United were beaten 3-2 at home by Adderbury Park.

It meant that ahead of last night's crunch title clash, only three points separated the sides, with second-placed Oakley having a game in hand.

OUP are still on course for a double having lifted the Oxfordshire Charity Cup with a 4-1 victory against Horspath at Thame United.

Goals from Jamie McCuaig, Johnny Roberts, substitute Craig Wharton and his brother, Sam, won it, with Jay Hill replying.

OUP took the lead 16 minutes into their game with Broughton when Ben Strong slotted in from 18 yards after Broughton failed to clear.

It was 2-0 on 32 minutes when Sean Hurcombe netted and Sam Wharton sealed it on 77 minutes with OUP’s third as they pulled three points clear at the top.

Oakley were left stunned as Adderbury took a 2-0 half-time lead through Chris Young and Josh Bowden.

After the break, a brace from Ben Gray made it 2-2, but Oakley's hopes of a draw ended when Junior Howards smashed in the winner 15 minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Elliot Powell scored twice in Marston Saints 4-0 home thumping of Riverside.

Powell opened his account with a unstoppable drive before Ben Crawford doubled the lead in the second half from close range.

Alex Allen made it 3-0 with a fine individual strike, before Powell wrapped it up with his 15th goal of the season to extend Marston’s unbeaten run to six games.

A superb 25-yard free-kick from substitute Robert Hatt sealed a 2-1 victory for Northway at home to Marston Saints in Division 1.

Jake Carter headed the hosts in front, only for Jason Hallett to level. But Hatt won it for the home side.

Adderbury Park Res’s Division 2 title hopes suffered a blow in a 4-3 defeat at home to Yarnton Res.

It should have been all over when Adderbury went 3-0 up with goals from Lee Timms, Dan Butler and Mike O’Carroll, but Jay Johnson (2), Senan Simmons and Greg Boone.

Oakley United Res won 2-0 at Chalgrove Res, with Shane Vanderluman and Adam Pike on target.
