OXFORD United were made to pay by a ruthless Millwall Lionesses on their return to action in FA Women’s Super League 2.

Kayleigh Hines and Chloe Chivers were on target for the hosts at Court Place Farm, but they went down 4-2 in their first game for more than a month.

Rianna Dean’s double gave Millwall a 2-0 lead by the 34th minute, but Hines quickly reduced the arrears.

United, who lost Lauren Haynes and Hines to injury, were given a great chance to go in level at the break when Viki Wotton handled in the box, but Chivers’s penalty was saved by Sarah Quantrill.

Having survived the let-off, Millwall went on to make the game safe with a second-half brace from substitute Charlie Devlin.

Chivers got on the scoresheet with a terrific strike in the final minute, but it was too late to inspire a comeback.

U’s midfielder Dan Carlton said: “The score does feel a bit harsh.

“They were more clinical in front of goal and it paid off for them.

“They had four chances and they scored four goals, that’s what they brought to us.

“Unfortunately for us, we come away 4-2 down, but we can take lots of positives out of the game as well.”
