FORMER Oxford City stalwart Jasper Thorne has died at the age of 82.
Thorne, christened Brian but universally known as Jasper, made 100 league appearance for City between 1952 and 1962, scoring 18 goals from midfield.
Nicknamed the 'Peter Pan of local football', Thorne played well into his fifties and answered a late call to turn out for City's reserves at the age 56 in the Wallspan Combination.
Five years earlier he led Inter Lions to victory in the final of the Morrells Oxford Sunday League's Jack Sadler Cup at City's White House Ground.
His son Dale, played for Oxford City, in the 1980s, making nearly 300 appearances.
A minute's' silence will be held for Thorne before Oxford City's Vanarama National League South clash at home to Wealdstone on Saturday.
A funeral service for Thorne, who also leaves a widow Doreen and daughter Linda, will be held at Oxford Crematorium on Thursday March 24 at 2.15.
