FORMER Banbury United striker Ben Polk has made the move of a lifetime after being called up by Major League Soccer champions Portland Timbers for the first round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.
The 23-year-old was on the books at Oxford United and went on to play for Banbury’s youth team, before making his senior debut at 17.
He eventually left United in 2013 to take up a scholarship in New York, before impressing in the American college system at Syracuse, helping them to the NCAA College Cup with 12 goals.
Polk admits life in the USA’s top flight will take some getting used to.
“It’s definitely a surreal experience,” Polk told OrgeonLive.
“I’m so grateful. I’m so excited to go to such a great team, the MLS Cup Champions, and I’m just ready to start working.”
