A small attendance turned out for our exciting encounter against Bishop's Stortford on Saturday as we closed the gap on the league leaders Ebbsfleet.

As planned, our high tempo start to the game rewarded us a goal.

Kynan Isaac broke through the defence before pulling the ball back to Bradley Bubb who found the bottom left corner with his right foot.

Moments later it should have been 2-0.

After controlling a wonderful pass from Andriu Santiago, I was able to lob the onrushing goalkeeper, only for the sound of the whistle to cut my celebration short for a foul I didn’t commit.

If the crowd somehow were not entertained by the opening few minutes, they were about to be.

As much as I love Santiago, his reckless tackle resulted in a red card and a penalty for the away team.

Bishop's Stortford eventually converted the spot kick after the referee controversially gave the wrong man his marching orders, as John Arzamendi headed down the tunnel.

After a quick reshuffle in formation and a few fantastic saves from Laurie Walker, we managed to hold out to the half time whistle with the game still level.

Despite being a man down, we knew we could still win the game.

However, five minutes into the second half, our task became even harder. The card happy referee brandished a second yellow to Dave King to leave us with 9 men on the pitch.

With half an hour to go, Isaac collected a short corner and found the inside of the far post with a powerful left footed strike. From what I heard the manager of the opposition screaming, he was not best pleased to see us take the lead.

I’m going to be modest. Even with nine men and the loss of Bubb and Ander Del Alamo to injury, we were absolutely fantastic.

Each player showed great character and passion to hold the lead and with ten minutes to go we sealed the win.

With the fear of a fine from the lads if I describe my goal in too many words, I will keep it short.

I was able to dribble past four of five players and bend the ball into the far corner before being trampled on in a celebratory team huddle.

I do hope it is on video.

Following on from Saturday, we travelled to Sutton United on Monday night to play a second game in just three days.

The opposition were big, strong and physical which didn’t help our tired legs from our last outing.

In the absence of Bubb, Omari Sterling-James wore the number 9 shirt and played a part in our early first half goal.

A training ground short corner found Isaac lurking on the edge of the box as he guided the ball into the near post and to continue his fantastic form.

Minutes later, Isaac ran through on goal only to be bundled over from behind from a recovering defender.

If refereeing decisions didn’t go our way in the last game, Monday was no different as the blatant red card and penalty decision was not given in our favour.

The game was a scrappy affair and the half time whistle arrived without many chances after the exciting opening.

Having said that, Sutton United exploded into life in the second half as they were sent out early from their team talk.

After hitting the bar and piling on the pressure, the home side scored thanks to a deflected cross which crawled into the bottom corner and levelled the game.

The equalising goal only intensified the match further as the yellow card made regular appearances.

The tense and close fought second half ended without many clear opportunities for either team as we left with a point.

The draw extends our unbeaten streak to ten games in the league as we travel to Ebbsfleet this weekend in a top of the table clash.
