OXFORD City will appeal after Jon Arzamendi was mistakenly sent off in their 3-1 victory at home to Bishop’s Stortford in Vanarama National League South on Saturday.

The visitors were awarded a penalty after a foul by Alejandro-Adrian Santiago, but it was his fellow Spaniard who received the red card from referee Anthony Serrano.

“It’s quite clear it wasn’t him,” said general manager Justin Merritt.

“I can’t even see how the referee has made that mistake. It was just so obvious who had made the challenge.

“It’s a very strange situation and we’re speaking to the FA at the moment about what the process involves.”

North Leigh hope to resurrect their faltering Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West campaign away to third-placed Shortwood United this evening (7.45) after three successive defeats.

Striker Kieran Sanders returns after being unavailable for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Cirencester Town in the FA Trophy, but Aaron Woodley (knee) is out, while Callum McNish (ankle) is a doubt.
