Banbury United kept their slim hopes of avoiding relegation alive with a comfortable 3-0 victory at the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division’s basement club Burnham on Saturday.

Although dominating proceedings, Banbury had to wait until the 56th minute before taking the lead.

An excellent cross from the impressive Milton Keynes Dons loanee Jacob Daffern was slotted home by Leam Howards after his initial shot had been saved by Burnham keeper Brendan Haslett.

On the hour mark, Kynan Isaac’s corner from the left saw Tom Fishwick heads towards goal six yards out, but Haslett deflected the ball away for a corner.

Two minutes later it was 2-0 when an indirect free kick ten yards out, given for dangerous play, was knocked a few inches across by Isaac to Jordan Green, who struck the ball low into the corner of the net.

The points were effectively sealed just in the 70th minute when a high cross from the right by Daffern went through Haslett’s hands and Luke Cray smashed the ball home from close range off the underside of the bar.

Banbury’s convincing success ends a run of five league games without a win and will raise confidence levels ahead of today’s trip to Redditch United.
