IN-FORM Adi Yussuf is grateful to Oxford City general manager Justin Merritt for giving him the chance to resurrect his career, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

The 22-year-old former Leicester, Burton and Lincoln striker found himself without a club during the summer after a succession of injuries had seen his chances curtailed.

Fortunately City came calling and Yussuf has repaid the gamble with 14 goals in all competitions.

“When I first came, the gaffer was really good to me,” Yussuf said.

“He told me that he was going to give me a chance and obviously I’m really thankful that he’s given me that chance to play.

“I just wanted to come and play and enjoy football again, because it’s been three years since I’ve actually played regularly.”

Yussuf lies second in the Vanarama Conference North scoring charts following a hot streak in front of goal that has seen him find the net five times in his last three games.

But he feels the credit should be shared with his team-mates.

“It’s a team game and the team’s been making it easy for me, so I’ve got to thank them,” Yussuf said.

“With the Spanish lads in the team, their technical ability is unbelievable and they really shouldn’t be playing at this level, to be honest.

“They just make it easier for me to score, so I’m very glad they are!”

He added: “It’s one of the best teams for team bonding that I’ve ever played in.

“We all get along, we all go out together, we all go for food together after training, so it’s really good.

“Everyone can speak to everyone, even though we have Spanish lads, French, English, Brazilian, we all get on really well.”
