Striker Steve Basham has set an example for his teammates to follow, according to Oxford City manager Mike Ford.

Basham, 36, has been sidelined for three months with a calf injury, but scored the equaliser as City drew 1-1 with Barrow on his first start since returning to fitness in Skrill North.

“It’s no coincidence that Steve Basham comes into the team, gets a goal and we come away with a point,” said Ford.

“I’m really pleased for Steve that he’s got himself fit, he’s worked so hard.

“I think one or two players in the group should look at what he does and how he tries to achieve, because he’s an absolute credit to himself and this football club.”

While praising his team’s efforts, Ford said it was part of a trend of improving displays.

He added: “When you're coming away to Barrow, who are unbeaten in three months and who beat the league leaders two weeks ago, it’s a difficult proposition for us.

“I thought my lads were excellent today and that’s just a continuation of the recent good form that we’ve shown.”
