FOOTBALL: Boss Ford is pleased side get rewards for effort
7:30am Monday 13th January 2014 in Non League
Oxford City manager Mike Ford said his players were not daunted by the form of their opponents as they earned a 1-1 draw at Colwyn Bay.
The home side had won their last six matches and appeared to be heading for a seventh before Kayden Jackson snatched a late equaliser for City.
But Ford felt that his players had benefitted from the lack of expectation placed on them.
He said: “It was easy really because we’re not expected to get anything.
“But we didn’t play like a team with reckless abandon, we played like a team that were in control of what they were doing.
“That was the most pleasing thing for me today, that we were in control of our own destiny and we got our rewards.”
And Ford is hopeful his side will take a similar approach as they entertain high-flying Altrincham next week.
“Seriously, it’s easy,” he added. “They are one of the giants of the division, we are languishing at the bottom of the table, we've got nothing to lose.
“It’s an easy game to play in. Go and play like we did today and we will get something out of it, because we’ll surprise Altrincham.”
